Assembly Instructions for Waterbed Drawers, Decking and Frames

There are several variations on hardside waterbed drawer and frame installation techniques. Below you will see the methods that we use and we hope you find the pictorial and information helpful.

Lay your frame on the floor finished sides down. The footboard is three inches longer than the backboard because it goes over the ends of the two side rails and the backboard sits between the two side rails. Both the footboard and backboard have a routed groove at the bottom that the decking is going to fit into. The grooves should be facing upward and on the inside of the configuration. Screw the corner brackets to the side rails at the foot of the bed and on each end of the backboard. Zoom in to view proper corner bracket placement. Don't mount the brackets right on the edge of the rails. Installing them about an eighth of an inch back from the edge will allow the screws to pull the rails in together for a tighter fit. Keep the top corners of the rails flush with your thumb while keeping the side rails flush with the palm of your hand while tightening the screws as shown in photo.

Lay two deck boards inside of the frame as shown making sure they go under the footboard and all the way to the back of the groove in the bottom of the footboard. Next, sit the backboard on top of the deck so the groove is all the way on top of the deck pieces on both ends and screw it down to both sides. This method of determining where the backboard should be secured permits a custom decking fit and allows for any variances there may be in the length of the decking or side rails.

To continue the installation, the deck boards need to be moved out of the way. You can lift the frame up on it's side like this or slide them out from underneath it. Once the deck boards are removed lay the frame back down on the floor and place it EXACTLY where you want your bed to be.

Set the two drawer half's inside of the frame on the floor as shown. They are not left or right side specific so it doesn't matter which side you put them on. Place the door unit and two spacers at the foot of the bed on the outside of the drawer ends. Pull the two drawer sides inwards towards the center making sure the end pieces fit snugly in place.
